My practice explores interior worlds — the emotional and psychological structures that shape how we contain, protect, and express experience. I am interested in the tension between vulnerability and control, softness and structure, and how these conditions can be translated into visual form.
Working across acrylic, alcohol markers, and mixed media, I build layered compositions where surface and depth exist in constant dialogue. Colour and mark-making function as both structural and emotional devices, allowing each work to develop through accumulation rather than fixed narrative. I approach layering as a record of thought and feeling, where what is covered continues to influence what emerges.
Growing up in Bermuda has shaped my visual language, particularly its light, geometry, and sense of stillness. These elements inform how I think about space, restraint, and composition, even as my practice evolves in new environments.
My training through the Bermuda Folklife Apprenticeship Program in wood sculpting under Chesley Trott established a foundation in material discipline and structural awareness that continues to inform my approach to painting as a constructed surface rather than a purely pictorial one.
I am influenced by artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Andy Warhol, whose distinct approaches to narrative, emotion, colour, and form reflect a shared concern with clarity and intention.
Collaboration and mentorship have also shaped my development, contributing to my understanding of craft, responsibility, and artistic process.
Ultimately, my work is concerned with how images can hold complexity — how they can contain contradiction, remain open, and articulate interior experience without reducing it.
